Leonard Flackman 11:00 – 12:00
Don’t think you need to know about writing query/proposal letters, and preparing a submission? Don’t “Shoot yourself in the foot.” Your manuscript is finished. You have paid to have it edited. You dash off a letter. Anyone can write a letter, right? How many times has a publisher not even read your submission because of the cover letter? (How it is written. What it says. Doesn’t say.) Hear in plain English about what to do–and not do–in your first communication with a publisher.
Leonard Flachman is president/publisher of Kirk House Publishers and Lutheran University Press.
He has a BA in English/Speech/Journalism from Wartburg College, and worked for Wartburg Press. At Augsburg Publishing House he was a curriculum editor, then director of product development for 18 years. In 1988 he joined the newly formed Augsburg Fortress Publishers. In 1993 with Karen Walhof, he started Kirk House Publishers, adding two imprints: Lutheran University and Press Quill House Publishers. www.kirkhouse.com
