Mars Needs Writers: Building Believable Science Fiction

Lyda Morehouse       2:00 – 3:00

In this workshop, we will discuss current trends in science fiction/fantasy, including the best selling dystopian science fiction of Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games to the extremely popular urban fantasy of Charlaine Harris’s series, the basis for the popular cable TV show, True Blood.  You will explore what makes science fiction/fantasy unique and how authors create believable futures or alternate realities.

Lyda Morehouse leads a double life.  By day, she’s a mild mannered, award-winning science fiction novelist. Lyda’s Archangel Protocol won the Shamus for best paperback original featuring a private investigator, and her Apocalpyse Array scored the Philip K. Dick special award for excellence (a.k.a. 2nd place).  By night, she’s the witchy, best-selling vampire romance writer, Tate Hallaway.  Tate’s novels include the five-book Garnet Lacey series, the young adult vampire princess of St. Paul series, and a new adult series called Precinct 13 (an X-Files/CSI mash-up.)   www.lydamorehouse.com or www.tatehallaway.com
