Have you ever wondered what poetry truly is? Is it rhyme and meter, or is it anything you want it to be? Have you ever wondered what method to use to convey your meaning? To answer these questions and more, we will discover what well-known poets and critics say. After considering brief examples, we will do exercises that enhance our ability to choose vibrant language and metaphor in poetry. Students will be guided to tap into their own pool of thought, and will have the opportunity to create their own poem.
Evelyn Klein is an author, teacher and artist with a B.S. in Secondary Education and an M.S. in the Teaching of English, and has taught at The Loft and Century College. Her prizewinning poem, “A Place Called Home,” is touring the Twin Cities with the Minneapolis Family Housing Fund.
